Uniting perspectives: Fair MusE, OpenMusE and Music360 convene for Brussels policy roundtable
On 9 December 2025, Fair MusE will join the Horizon Europe projects OpenMusE and Music360 in co-organising a joint policy roundtable in Brussels, held in the presence of representatives of the European Commission. Taking place at a pivotal moment in the projects’ timelines, this closed-door meeting will bring together insights that have shaped three years of research and open the floor to policy recommendations and structured dialogue on the future of Europe’s music ecosystem.
The three projects were launched in 2023 under a shared European ambition: to strengthen fairness, transparency and sustainability in the continent’s music ecosystem. Each of them examines the sector from a different angle — economic and societal value in both offline and online environments, user engagement and participation, data practices, metadata and value-chain dynamics — contributing complementary insights into how the landscape is evolving in a platform-dominated economy.
In Brussels, these projects and their research leaders will bring these perspectives together. The morning sessions will present the key outcomes and emerging policy directions of Fair MusE, OpenMusE and Music360, followed by exchanges with representatives of the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC). The afternoon session will focus on the creation and advancement of a European Music Observatory, examining its suitability, purposes, and potential barriers for its establishment. The day will conclude with reflections from the European Commission and a forward-looking exchange on the next steps.
For Fair MusE, the roundtable offers a valuable moment to influence the project’s final phase. The presentation of a preliminary version of the project’s White Paper will bring its main findings into a direct dialogue with OpenMusE, Music360 and the European Commission, contributing to a broader reflection on fairness, transparency and music data governance.
