Organised by the European Commission DG EAC on 22 February 2024, the event was part of the ongoing Music Moves Europe initiative, fostering collaboration and unity within the music sector on EU policy matters.

Fair MusE’s Project Officer, Melpomeni Vyzika, expressed enthusiasm  for an inspiring event  where a broad representation of Europe’s music sector could meet policy makers and  researchers to discuss cutting-edge issues.

During the conference, Fair MusE’s Coordinator, Giuseppe Mazziotti, highlighted the project’s commitment to identifying criteria for measuring platform fairness, despite trade secrecy obstacles. “We aim to make users aware of who treats artists fairly,” he affirmed. Presenting Fair MusE as one of the Horizon funded projects, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Liliana Ivanova, defined EU-funded projects in this field as “tangible commitments to the music sector.”

In parallel, Fair MusE stood alongside projects like OpenMusE, Music360, and others, emphasizing collaboration and shared objectives within EU-funded initiatives.

OpenMusE, represented in the conference, aims to place European music ecosystems on a more competitive, fair, and sustainable footing through evidence-based policymaking and transparent tools. Their Open Music Observatory and open-source software empower music SMEs to access and analyze data efficiently.

Music 360, focusing on the professional use of background music, seeks fair distribution and accurate valuation of music rights. By recognizing the value music brings to various venues, Music 360 aims to create a just and transparent music economy.

The conference showcased the collective commitment of these projects to shaping a future where the European music sector thrives through fairness, transparency, and innovation.
